Hardox 500 Wear Resistant Steel Plate

Hardox 500 is a special steel wear-resistant plate that can be deeply machined, bent, and welded. It has a nominal hardness of 500 HBW and is ideal for applications requiring higher wear resistance. For example, mining machinery and equipment, excavators and other products that require high wear resistance. These steels undergo a special heat treatment process to significantly improve their surface hardness and wear resistance.

Brinell hardness (HBW) for wear resistant steels, measured on the milled surface, 0.019 – 0.118" below the surface, according to EN ISO 6506-1. At least one test specimen is required per heat, weighing 40 tons. The nominal thickness of the supplied plate must not deviate more than +/- 0.590" from the thickness of the test specimen used for the hardness test. For thin plates, the Brinell hardness test is performed on each heat treated individual/coil according to EN ISO 6506-1. The hardness is measured on the milled surface, 0.012 - 0.079" below the surface.

(1) Tolerances according to Hardox® Thickness Guarantee. Hardox® Guarantees meet the requirements of EN 10029 Class A for plate, but offer more narrow tolerances. For sheets the guarantees meets the requirements of 1/2 EN 10051.

(2) For hardox500 plates, tolerances are in accordance with SSAB's mill edge standard or tolerances in accordance with EN 10029. For wear resistant sheets, tolerances are in accordance with EN 10051, tighter tolerances are available on request.

Hardox500 wear-resistant steel application scenarios

* Mining industry: Wear-resistant steel can be used to manufacture mine cars, excavator buckets, crusher liners, etc.

* Construction machinery: Hardox500 is used to manufacture wearing parts of bulldozers, loaders and cranes.

Manufacturing and other recommendations

Welding, bending and machining are possible

Hardox® wear plate is not suitable for further heat treatment. It acquires its mechanical properties by quenching and, if necessary, by subsequent tempering. The properties in the delivery state will not be maintained after exposure to temperatures exceeding 482ºF.

When further processing wear plate is subjected to, Houming can do such as welding, cutting, grinding with an appropriate safety precautions. Grinding, especially of primer-coated plates, may generate dust with a high particle concentration.
