Corten Steel Plate is called atmospheric corrosion resistant steel and high-strength weathering steel. It is a low-alloy steel specially designed and produced for the corrosion of steel in the atmosphere. Atmospheric corrosion resistant steel was originally mainly used for bridges, railway passenger cars, containers, engineering machinery, marine facilities, and seaport building structures. In recent years, weathering
Steel Plate have gradually begun to be used in building finishes and garden landscaping.
Compared with the chemical composition of traditional steel, this kind of weathering steel is a low-alloy steel, containing niobium, molybdenum, phosphorus, titanium, copper, chromium, nickel and other elements in different proportions with a total alloy content of less than 3%. During the use of weathering steel in contact with the atmosphere, a dense, well-adhesive amorphous oxide layer protective film is formed on the surface of the metal matrix. The color gradually changes from rust red to dark blue and finally to dark purple, and it will no longer rust and stabilize. This protective film effectively blocks the invasion of corrosion and extends the service life of the component.
Features of weathering steel products:
Weathering steel grades can be used directly without a protective layer, eliminating the pickling and hot-dip galvanizing processes of conventional steel plates, simplifying the production process.
Not using paint can prevent the volatilization of VOC (volatile organic compounds), which is more conducive to recycling and is of great benefit to environmental protection.
Since the corrosion resistance of weathering steel depends on the overall structure of the material, atmospheric corrosion-resistant steel is not as sensitive to external bumps and collisions as ordinary steel with surface treatment that relies on the surface protective layer.
When weathering steel plates are used for building finishes, the rust changes on the surface of the steel plates caused by natural climate reflect the imprint of time. Buildings grow and change over time like living organisms.
Weathering steel has different small differences according to the technical alloy elements and proportions of different manufacturers.
Among all the corrosion-resistant steel grades, the most well-known to architects is the steel with the registered trademark Cor-Ten® series (Cor-Ten is a registered trademark of the American Iron and Steel Association for weathering steel). Cor-Ten steel is divided into the Cor-Ten A series, which is mainly composed of high-phosphorus copper plus chromium and nickel, and the Cor-Ten B series, which is mainly composed of chromium-manganese alloy.
my country has also begun to develop a large number of weathering steels since the 1960s. Many steel mills also have different weathering steel products, such as 05CuPCrNi, 09CuPCrNi, 10CrNiCuP series of Ammonium Steel, 06CuPRE, 05CuPCrNi, 09CuPTiR, 09CuPCrNi series of Wuhan Iron and Steel, etc. The performance and composition of these weathering steels produced by GB are also very powerful!
